Working in the buffet car is a vital part of the train operating days and special events at the railway. Income from the buffet car is essential to enable other jobs at KSE to happen.
Our buffet car dates from the 1930s and has recently been refurbished.
We have a range of roles which include waiting tables, taking orders and hot drinks, food preparation and shift supervisor. There is opportunity to gain certificates in food hygiene which is funded by the railway and full training will be given. Working in the buffet car can be hectic during large events but that is part of the fun. The buffet car is also used on inclusion days and private events to serve prepared buffets from local caterers. Shifts vary according to the type of event with ability to to do just half days.
Our buffet car lead and SRC director Sue Jones can provide more information on request - email
