We aim to be open to the public 10am - 4pm on Sundays from Easter - December 2026 with additional Saturday opening for events. We are closed for essential maintenance from December - Easter each year. If you would like to be part of our platform staff as a volunteer welcomer and to learn new skills please vist our volunteering page. New welcomers will be supported by one of our experienced volunteers and it is a great way to make new friends. We welcomed the Ariel Motorcycle Club who were on tour in 2022 with Sue H, Joan and Sue J forming part of the welcoming team. It was a great day and the video shows the departure of the motorcycles. Events at Kirkby Stephen East We are open to the public on Sundays from 10am - 4pm with some additional open days on Saturdays.
Events run 10am - 4pm unless stated otherwise with free admission (donations welcome) and charges for train rides (subject to availability). Some special events may have an admission charge. Train service - motive power steam Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July 2026 - Kirkby Stephen in the 1940s Weekend- Free event to showcase the home front in the Eden Valley. We are working with Chris Hallam, members of the Military Vehicle Trust and Kirkby Stephen Town Council to deliver this event. There will be exhibits around the site and in town with a free vintage bus service between Brough, Kirkby Stephen and the mainline station. Train service - motive power steam Sunday 26th July 2026 - Westmorland Dales Festival Weekend - We are pleased to be part of the local celebration of the landscape of the Westmorland Dales and the people who live and work here. Kirkby Stephen will showcase conservation, countryside stalls, craft and food markets with entertainments and activities for everyone, Train service - motive power diesel Sunday August 2026 Sunday Train Services Every Sunday in August we aim to operate train services with our buffet car open for light refreshments.
