Stainmore Railway Company (SRC) is a company limited by shares (registered in England No 3959471). It is a volunteer run, non-profit distributing company who’s aims include:
1. To restore the former Kirkby Stephen East Railway Station and to develop the site as a Heritage Centre and working railway representing the early 1950’s.
2. To obtain, restore and operate a representative collection of locomotives and rolling stock.
3. To provide an educational resource relating to local history and the development and operation of the railway.
4. To provide training in all the skills necessary to restore and maintain the railway and its infrastructure.
If you wish to support our work, you can become a shareholder for just £10-00 per share (Application form). You can also subscribe to our newsletter for £10-00 per year (example on newsletter page).
You can also apply for shares by monthly or annual standing order which helps provide a regular income for our work (Standing order mandate).
As a shareholder, you are entitled to attend and vote at our AGM, have free admission to Open Days and footplate rides.
You can be a volunteer without holding shares and we have a wide range of activities to suit all ages and abilities (see project list for details). There are people on site every weekend and there is also a ‘midweek gang’. Our station cats keep an eye on proceedings and the kettle is on the go most of the day.
